Even though depression may seem like something we long to be without, we
must first be thankful and grateful for how it has served us and protected us.
Anyone who suffers from depression is first and foremost a survivor.
Congratulations! You made it to right here and right now, thanks to your ability to protect yourself.
There is a part of you who works tirelessly to protect you, a young
inner child who all your life has been at your side fighting to keep
you safe. It's time to thank this inner child for all its efforts. Wow!
Thank You! You mean you loved me that much?
Depression is a sign of a healthy, functioning defense system. The question is, what are you
defending yourself from? What feeling is your beautiful inner child preventing you from
feeling? What knowledge does your inner child have that it feels is too much for you to bear?
Why does your precious inner protector prevent you from experiencing lasting joy and passion
and happiness? Because this part of you still thinks you're in danger.
Your depression is your friend! Now let's return the favor!
Kiss her hand and politely disobey! Cry for him the poor little guy! Hug her the sweet
little girl!
When you have compassion and gratitude for yourself, the grieving can begin. And at
the end of the mourning, you find yourself free from depression. And Your Personal
Muse says: “Welcome brave and passionate child! You are full of life now!”

We must send kind and gentle messages to the war front deep inside your poor little child's
heart:
The war is over! You made it! It already happened! You already know!
And then we must welcome all of the healing emotions which come with the pain, the loss, and
the sorrow that our depression has cut us off from.
When it feels like you could never face it, that is precisely when you can! When it feels like it's
too much, that's how you know the time is right! When the end of the world looms just around
the bend and you begin to sadden down to the place where it doesn't matter because it's too late
and no one cares, you're almost home!
